Maple Shade Youth Baseball Guidelines and Recommendations on the Return to Play 2021

Update: Rev. 4 1/27/2021

  • The plan will be reviewed regularly and adjusted for effectiveness or if/when government guidance changes.
  • The best protection for our players and families is for parents to keep players and family members home if showing any symptoms related to COVID-19.

- All individuals should measure their body temperature to ensure that no fever is present prior to participating or attending any MSYB activity. Anyone with symptoms of fever, cough, or worsening respiratory symptoms, or any known exposure to a person with COVID-19 should not attend any MSYB activity until cleared by a medical professional.

- Teams must spread players out, expand the dugout area when room permits, utilize the bleacher areas but only if player safety will not be compromised. Expansion of the team dugouts should not be done into foul ball areas. Attempt to limit bench personnel to essential team personnel.

- All families and spectators are to wear a mask and to continue social distancing on and off the field during an event. Practice social distancing of six feet wherever possible from individuals not residing within their household, especially in common areas. (Gator masks and valved masks are not recommended PPE by the Health Dept in our County.)

- Parents and spectators should refrain from using the field bleachers which will be reserved for dugout expansion

- Parents and spectators should bring their own chairs for viewing the games which can be spaced out along the foul lines and behind the outfield fencing.

- Parents are encouraged to supply their players with antibacterial wipes and hand sanitizer for disinfecting shared playing equipment and cleaning hands between innings. The League will also have sanitation areas out for all to use.

- All coaches, volunteers and umpires are to wear face coverings whenever applicable and possible. (Gator masks and valved masks are not recommended PPE by the Health Dept in our County.)

- Players should wear cloth face coverings when in close contact areas and in places where recommended social distancing is challenging or not feasible, such as in dugouts.

- Players are not required to wear a cloth face covering while on the field during game play or practice. However, players will be permitted to wear a cloth face covering on the field during game play, if physically able to do so, based on any directive of a medical provider or individual determination of the parent/guardian.

- Coaches must clean their dugout of all trash and other items after each game, and to wipe down (clean) hard surfaces such as benches, bat racks, etc.

- Upon arriving at a dugout for the first time, teams are to disinfect hard surface areas (benches, bat racks, etc.). Procedures #10 and #11 here will comply with the CDC recommendation of a two-step process for cleaning and disinfecting

- Players should have their own individual batter's helmet, gloves, bat, and catcher's equipment, if possible. All equipment should be kept in the players bag. Use of dugout bat racks and helmet racks is discouraged.

- Some critical equipment such as catcher's equipment may not be able to be obtained by every individual. When it is necessary to share critical or limited equipment, all surfaces of each piece of shared equipment must be cleaned first and disinfected with an EPA-approved disinfectant and allowed sufficient time to dry before used by a new player. Increased attention should be paid to detail cleaning of all equipment directly contacting the head and face.

- Consumption of food, gum and sunflower seeds on the field and in the dugout is prohibited by all players, coaches, umpires and volunteers. NO FOOD IS ALLOWED IN DUGOUTS!

- All players and coaches are always required to refrain from spitting, including in dugout areas and on the playing field.

- Foul balls landing outside the field of play should be retrieved by participating players, coaches, and umpires. No spectators should retrieve the ball.

- The umpires will be stationed at a position of at least 6 feet behind the pitcher in the infield area and will not set up behind the plate.

- After the game, there will be no handshake line. Players and coaches will line up on the first and third base foul lines and tip caps as a show of good sportsmanship.

- Players and families are asked to leave the field within 15 minutes of the game concluding to avoid overcrowding at the fields and complex.

- The restrooms will be open and disinfected regularly. We ask that all league families to please follow proper hygiene guidelines and wash your hands before exiting the bathrooms

- The snack stand will be open, guidelines for the purchasing of food or drinks may be limited, gum and seeds will not be sold. The League will have a Venmo option as well as a debit card payment that can be used. Currently the only members who are allowed into the snack stand will be Lady Auxiliary members. No player, coaches or managers will be permitted inside the stand. When visiting the snack stand, NO MASK, NO SERVICE.

We understand that these are unprecedented times but the league feels as though we can provide a safe and fun environment for the boys and girls to learn and enjoy the game. All of our coaches and Board members are volunteers that like you, have children in the program that we aim to protect. If at anytime you do not feel comfortable at the field or complex, we ask that you please refrain from attending league events. We thank you for continued support as we work through the season.
